Simple Cleaning Routine
In our new home, we are responsible for more space and more upkeep than ever before. It took me a while to learn that becoming a minimalist doesn’t mean you never have to clean, but it definitely makes cleaning easier!
I haven’t been in much of a “spring cleaning” mood this year, which I blame in part on the continual cloudy weather. I’m definitely looking forward to sunny days and chirping birds coming our way soon. In the meantime before I snap and have a cleaning craze, Stuart and I are trying to stick to a schedule to stay on top of everything.
Household chores are important to us because we enjoy our home the most when it is tidy and clean. A well-maintained house is more peaceful and allows us to easily think, breathe, and relax. Together we agreed on a list of the most important household tasks that will help enjoy our home life, and I organized them in a routine. We are both list and system people, so this has been a great tool for our life!
Our goal was to minimize the mental and emotional load of cleaning by breaking tasks into more manageable groups. I categorized cleaning tasks based on frequency and need - with daily, weekly, monthly, and annual tasks divvied up to limit the workload on any given day. This kind of schedule can be modified for your unique needs. In our family, we use an automatic vacuum cleaner and take care of two kitties, which affects our needs and regular routine.
Breaking tasks up in this way has helped us track and manage the needs of our household - and we love our clean home!
